THE DARK KNIGHT - some thoughts

Friday, August 1, 2008

First of all , let me say one thing. Well a bunch of things actually and then I promise I will get to the point. Alas....Let me get something off my chest.

"THE TITANIC" is a complete piece of shit of a movie and even if you got caught up in whatever you got caught up when you saw it, watch it now on a small screen and I defy you to try and convince me that it is one of the best movies of all time and should be the top grossing film of all time on top of that. I remember seeing it with a girl that I was friends with and it was her second time seeing it and she was crying her eyes out while I literally fell asleep twice during the movie. It was that bad, come on , admit it.....It looked like it was made for the USA NETWORK.I'm a sucker for a real romantic , mooshy thing too......I actually have a heart....Complete piece of shit movie....Im not backing down on this one. Serious piece of shit movie, not as bad as say anything Jennifer Lopez has usually been in, but real close. We're talking microscopically close to "THE WEDDING PLANNER" , "MAID IN MANHATTAN" and or "MONSTER IN LAW" ( not that I've seen these movies per se, I feel as if I don't need to see them to know that they just flat out suck......Anybody disagree....Please take note of the comment button below and leave me a note. Discuss the virtues of Jennifer Lopez's acting career below...Thank you...Yours.....MOWO! )

Having said that , and now probably pissed off half of the readers of this piece....Sorry , I just needed to do that. Having now done that.

Here goes a review of "THE DARK KNIGHT"

I have to say, I was blown away by this film. I literally thought I was going to see a movie where one actor in particular stole the film. I agree with everyone that Heath Ledgers performance was stellar. I have to say though that the real star of the film for me is Christopher Nolan, the director and co writer of the script. The amount of work he did on this film , the research , the thought , just bringing it all together. Tremendous job. This is not just a film that is a summer blockbuster. This film touches on so many issues. It shocked the hell out of me to tell you the truth. The overwhelming amount of moral issues this film touches upon. Ultimately I really think the movie is about faith and belief. Im not going to say a single word about the plot or give away any details other than to say that this is not the "BATMAN" we grew up with at all. Not by any stretch. Comparing Ledgers performance with that of Jack Nicholson's would be similar to comparing say Pokie the play dough horse from the Gumby series to Sea Biscuit. It's a pointless endeavor and as much as I think Jack is the man, I honestly think in order for Heath Ledger to do this roll he actually had to become nuts. There is no other logical explanation for how amazingly on point his performance was. We now know of his drug usage and prescription medication. I can't imagine being in character for this role and not having it effect you in real life. He just was that good. If he doesn't win an Oscar I'm moving to France....Well I'm probably moving to France anyway, this will just be one more reason to hasten that move.

Seeing both Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman in the film also made me just "smile" like the joker. Genius actors. Every time Morgan Freeman is on camera I literally said something about "RED" from "THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION" He is in real top form for this role. The cast and casting is mind numbingly well done. Even the smallest cameo has you surprised.

I don't think a frame of film was wasted in the making of this.

A lot of you guys know me. I get excited about something and I go overboard. I admit it. But I never gush like this. This film knocked me out. Go see it twice and after seeing it , think about the world we are living in now and wonder , how on earth the movie that is going to maybe eventually break every box office record actually touches on a lot of real current issues and a lot of issues of the human condition. It delivers so many messages about life and good and evil and chaos and order. Its as if Nolan delivered the same message George Lucas tried to convey with STAR WARS but for adults and with all of the terrible dialog removed. Congrats to everyone who worked on this film. You worked on an instant classic.

HOO DADDY!

( I didnt know how else to end this review.....it's so unliuke me to be this positive.....figured "HOO DADDY!" says it all and is an easy exit! hahaha )

be well,
