not that its going on my resume or anything but :

So I had a very interesting way of bringing in the new year last evening.

My friends My Morning Jacket were playing at Madison Square Garden. Huge gig for them. I sort of wasn't going to go as I hung out with them in Paris earlier in the year and I didnt want to bother the fellas for a ticket or pass. I even brought Jim the lead singer to take part in a Bill Whithers tribute concert Hal Willner put together so all in all 2008 was the year of MOWO! meets THE JACKET! hahaha.....Turns out also though that my main man Steven Bernstein had been asked to play trumpet with them in the "NEW YEARS EVE HORNS" horn section........so well.........Bernstein ( as I love to call him ) called me up and was like..."hey..........you are coming to this with me , come on man.....come and and hang! "

( how many names did I just drop in the last paragraph? did I also mention that BONO and I were together last night with Q-TIP and we all got hammered? hahaha ) sooooooooooo

How could I say know. Bernstein as some of you may already know has worked on my last two albums , playing trumpet on SHAKE YA BOOGIE and RIGHT NOW......good times! We always did some score work together when I produced Jamie Cullum for MEET THE ROBINSONS for Disney........and..........MOWO! INC just released his amazing groups latest album "WE ARE MTO" ( killin' stuff ) So, suffice it to say......I was not going to let MR BERNSTEIN down.

To add to the merry mix up. Mark and Craig from VHS OR BETA were in town and they are really good old friends with the guys from MMJ.......so it was a hootinanny of all hootinanny's!

We arrived and it was like 15 degrees out. Both mark and I had commented a couple of fimes about not wanting to go out at all actually as new years eve represents amateur night for both of us. IM GLAD WE BRAVED THE WEATHER AND THE TOURISTS FOR THIS THOUGH.

what an incredible night of music , what an amazing way to usher out a difficult year and greet a new amazing one. MMJ killed..........the sound was amazing. We sat right at the mixing board for the majority of the concert and it sounded SO amazing. Hat's off mr sound man. YOU my friend are very talented.

The concert was split up into 2 sets.......the first set being the far heavier of the two. about 2 hours 15 minutes long and DOPE..........the second set started RIGHT AT MIDNIGHT and , I have to say........started with a bang........why you ask? well.......because I WAS ON STAGE WITH THEM SINGING BAKGROUNDS on two KOOL AND THE GANG COVERS they decided to do. MY VOICE BELLOWED throughout the garden.......quite a thrill.......all of us had a blast and were onstage for like 10-12 minutes just laughing and jumping around. TONS OF FUN.......such a great way to usher in a NEW YEAR. I have never had a new years gig as a musician. How random is that? I think I DJ'ed once, but in all fairness, THAT IS NOT A NEW YEARS GIG.........its not being a musician. ITS PLAYING RECORDS......so snore.

so yes.........got home VERY late. But luckily had not really had anything to drink and just was chill throughout the whole evening. Was a lot of fun

HATS OFF TO MY MORNING JACKET for being the best hosts of a NEW YEARS EVE concert / party I've ever been to.

happy healthy 2009 everyone.......be safe and be happy :)

be well,

MOWO!™
